What is Hormone Therapy?

Hormone therapy is a medical treatment that involves the use of hormones, either natural or synthetic, to modify the levels of certain hormones in the body. The purpose of hormone therapy is to treat various medical conditions by supplementing or blocking the production of specific hormones.

Hormone therapy is commonly used to address hormonal imbalances associated with menopause or certain cancers, including prostate and breast cancer. It can also be effective in treating other conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and gender dysphoria.

Depending on the condition being treated, hormone therapy may involve different types of hormones, such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or thyroid hormones. Hormone therapy can be administered through different methods, including pills, injections, patches, or creams.

Hormone Therapy with a Naturopathic Doctor

How Do Naturopathic Doctors use Hormone Therapy?

Naturopathic doctors take a natural and holistic approach to hormone therapy that involves using a combination of lifestyle modifications, nutritional supplements, and herbal remedies to promote natural hormonal balance. To determine the best treatment plan, naturopathic doctors conduct a thorough evaluation of the patient’s medical history, physical examination, and laboratory testing.

The approach taken by naturopathic doctors focuses on lifestyle changes, such as diet, exercise, and stress management, to support hormone health. Herbal medicine, or botanicals, is another approach used to promote hormonal balance. Naturopathic doctors may recommend specific herbs, such as black cohosh for menopause or saw palmetto for prostate health.

Naturopathic hormone treatment

In addition to lifestyle modifications and herbal remedies, naturopathic doctors may suggest nutritional supplements to support hormonal health. Vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin D and zinc, are two examples of supplements that may be recommended to support hormone production.

Overall, the goal of naturopathic hormone therapy is to support the body’s natural hormone balance and promote overall health and well-being. It is important to seek guidance from a licensed naturopathic doctor when considering hormone therapy.
